An infinite content canvas

A desk that never runs out of room.

Wide.li is a content canvas with no edges. Drop in notes, photos, videos, links and files. Put each one where it makes sense to you. Come back tomorrow and it is all exactly where you left it.

The problem

Where does it all go?

One project, five apps. The lecture is in a watch-later, your notes on it in a notes app, the screenshot in a folder, the PDF in downloads. Each one shows its own kind of thing and nothing else, so nothing ever sits next to what it belongs with.

I saved it somewhere, but where?

I have ideas everywhere and can’t see them together.

My bookmarks are a graveyard.

None of this is a memory problem. It is a layout problem. You need somewhere to put things down.

What if you could just put it down?

Think about how you work at a real desk. You spread things out. The thing you are working on goes right in front of you, the maybe pile off to the side, and the two that belong together, together. Nobody files anything. Wide.li is that desk without the edges. Whatever you put on it stays where you put it, and there is always more room.

How it works

The same three things you do at any desk.

  1. 1

    Put it down

Paste a screenshot. Drag in a photo, a PDF or a YouTube link. Click Text and start typing. Everything lands on the board as its own item, right where you dropped it.

  2. 2

    Spread it out

Drag anything wherever you like and resize it from its corner. Put the things you are working on side by side and push the rest out of the way. Nothing has to go anywhere in particular.

  3. 3

    Come back to it

Give the things that matter a name and they get an address: wide.li/thesis, wide.li/tiles. Bookmark a spot. Search for the rest. Tomorrow it is all still there, exactly as you left it.

What makes it different

Built to be used, not just filled.

Anything goes on the desk.

Notes with headings and checklists. Photos and screenshots. YouTube videos that play right there. Links, PDFs, spreadsheets, whatever file you have. Wide.li knows what you pasted and turns it into the right kind of item.

Everything stays alive.

A note on the board is a note you can keep writing in. A video plays where it sits, and can start at the minute you care about. A screenshot lands beside the thing it is about. You work on the desk, not in a viewer.

You never have to file anything.

No folder to pick, no title to type, no form to fill in before something is saved. Drop it on the desk and it stays there. Keep the things you use together next to each other, and rearrange whenever you like.

Name it, and you will always find it.

Give any item a handle and it gets a personal address. Call the note “thesis” and it lives at wide.li/thesis for you. Type that into the address bar from anywhere and you are looking at it. Your own words become your navigation.

Links take you across the board.

A link can point at another item, a different board or a website. Click it and the board glides to the target. Attach a link to a picture and the picture becomes a doorway. Far corners of your desk, one click apart.

Find it again in seconds.

Search covers every item you own, on this board or any other. Bookmark a spot to return to it in one click. Cut something here and paste it on another board.

Show a board to the world when you want to.

Publish a board at its own link. Open to anyone, behind a password, or only for the people you name. Change your mind and take it down again anytime.

Files are stored exactly as you uploaded them. Download any of them, anytime.
Flip, rotate, or lock an image as the board’s background.
Paste anything with ⌘V. Wide.li works out what it is.
Light and dark, following your system.

Research

Articles, quotes, images and sources laid out by theme. The connections show themselves.

Mood boards

Photos, colors, references. Spread them out, then pull the winners together.

Questions

Questions people ask.

Is it a whiteboard?

Not really. Whiteboards are for drawing and for meetings. Wide.li is a desk for your actual stuff: the photos, notes, videos and files themselves, laid out so you can work with them.

How is it different from other canvas apps?

Most canvases are built for a team to talk in front of. Wide.li is built for one person to think on. It holds your real content, not notes about it, and it stays yours for as long as you want it.

What can I put on it?

Text with formatting and checklists, images, SVGs, YouTube videos, your own video files, links, and any other file. Paste it, drag it in, or create it from the toolbar.

Is there a free plan?

No. It starts at $7.50 a month, billed yearly. Every board here belongs to someone who chose to keep it, which keeps Wide.li fast, quiet and cared for.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your account and everything on it stay. You can still open your boards, move things around and edit. You just cannot add new uploads until you subscribe again.

Can other people see my board?

Only if you publish it. Boards are private by default. You can publish a board at its own link, open to anyone, behind a password, or for specific people, and unpublish it whenever you like.

Can I get my files back out?

Always. Files are stored exactly as you uploaded them. Download any of them from the item’s menu.

Where does it run?

In your browser, on a desktop or laptop. It follows your system’s light or dark mode.
